It gives me immense pleasure to write regarding the College. The Islamia Faridiya college of Education (IFCOE) Kishtwar has successfully completed more than two decades of its service to the society in general and Chenab Valley Region in particular by producing Teacher professionals for the education sector imbued with updated subject knowledge, teaching skills, healthy and positive attitudes towards teaching profession and student clientele in general.
The college was established in 2001 and started its first batch with an intake capacity of 120 students in the year 2001-02 in spacious campus which had then accommodated even science classes of the Govt. Degree College Kishtwar for a couple of years when its own building (GDC, Kishtwar)was upcoming /under construction.
Initially the college inmates were predominantly were prominently non-locals hailing from adjoining states like Punjab, Himachal, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujrat, Up, Bihar etc, from whom hostel facilities were hired in private hotels. But gradually the local candidates outnumbered the non-locals. For the last couple of years more than 95% students of the college are locals, mostly belonging to the Chenab Valley Region of Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban Districts.
The College has now its own Hostel for Girls candidates with a capacity of about 100 students, Outstation Boys prefer to stay outside in rented accommodation or with their Relatives. There is canteen service, cold drinking water, games facility, first aid medical facility, toilet, Library-cum reading room facility available for the benefit of the students. Besides the college has developed a Computer Lab, Psychological Lab, tecnology Lab , Science lab, Teaching Aids / Methods lab for the benefit of the students. Internet facility for about ten computers is also available for the students. There is a provision for scholarship for the poor, orphan and physically challenged students .Besides, J&K Social welfare Department makes full imbursement of the college/university fees to the eligible students.
The college administration is run on participatory and democratic basis on a decentralized pattern of governance. At the top level there is College Management, Principal of the college and at the bottom level various college committees comprising of Teachers, students and non teaching staff are delegated powers to run the day to day business of the institution. There is admission Committee, Purchase and Finances Committee, Discipline Committee, Grievance Redressel Cell .Library Committee, Examination (Internal Assessment) Committee, Practice teaching Committee, NSS Advisory Committee, Co-curricular Committees are entrusted with various special assignments and powers to assist the college administration to run the day to day business smoothly.
In the College premises (Near Library Block) Suggestion and complaint Boxes and installed where in students, s taff or parents/stakeholders can addresses them on weekly basis. Besides the students parents staff can directly approach the administration for the redressel of their grievances any time on all working days
Guidance and counseling cell provides the requisite guidance and assistance throughout the academic session.
Placement cell provides necessary career information and help to the students during the academic session and afterwards for jobs avenues and placements.
The College publishes annual magazine “CHENAB VALLEY” in which articles, write-ups, views and opinions of student writers on various themes namely general education, socio economic issues especially teacher education related problems are published. Besides the student writers the magazine incorporates articles contributed by teachers, social and educational thinkers.
I on behalf of the college Publication committee invites articles from all concerned to submit their original and creative write ups/ articles and research articles including research papers in time(preferably before December each year)so that these could be published in April next year.
The University of Jammu has under the Dynamic and expert leadership of its Director CDC prof. Deshbandu Gupta started on-line admission process of B.Ed. Students to make it easily accessible and transparent for the stakeholders. This year it has started on the month of August and shall be completed by the end of the September. The class work shall start from October 2022 for the new academic session. It is pertinent to maintain that the Director of CDC.JU has computerized that all the records of the B.Ed. Students right from admission through registration to examination. Even all correspondence between the colleges and the affiliating university is instantly and promptly done through internet technology. It has thus fully been utilizing three latest technology in the governance and administration of affiliated college. The credit for introducing the satellite communication technology in e-governing the institution goes to the present Director CDC, prepares an Academic Calendar and is given in the hand Book which is followed stricky (with some minor modifications during the session on account of some unforeseen eventualities and exigencies).
B.Ed. Corse which is one of one year duration consists of Theory part and practice teaching Parts with a wheightage of 70 and 30 respectively. In the Theory Part there are four Core of Foundations papers, one special Paper and two methodology based subjects to be taught during Practice teaching. There are internal as well as external components in the theory Papers. Internal assessments are continuously done during the whole session including awards reserved for attendance. Practice teaching part comprises of Micro & Macro teaching/School Practice and School experience/internship. Fifty percent marks are reserved for internal Practice and fifty percent marks for external Practice lessons supervised by University appointed External Examiners.
Passing of examinations in both the internal and external components is compulsory to qualify for the award of degree.
College has formulated a practice Teaching book incorporating the guidelines and blueprints for the Micro teaching, Macro Teaching and internship to be obtained on cash payment from the college at the beginning of the session. The College has well qualified faculty consisting of experienced staff from school/College as well as freshers selected by the duly constituted Committee of the affiliating University, the University of Jammu. There are frequent interactions between the faculty members sharing their knowledge, experiences, and view through formal and informal ways. These interactions and peer group discussion help in enhancing their depth professional knowledge and communicative skills.
I on behalf of the management, college administration, and staff of the college extend heartiest and warm welcomes to the new entrants of the institution and assure them all support, assistance and guidance during their academic session as well as afterwards.
There is a College Alumni Association and every ex-student, pass out of the College can enroll him/her-self in association and actively participate in the constrictive deliberations for the development of the institutions and its sister organizations.
Any suggestions, for the improvement of curriculum transaction, organization of college activities programmes, curriculum, and development by the stakeholders are always welcome.
